This is a guided bus trip to Trollstigen with return to Åndalsnes. We make our first stop at Trollveggen. Trollveggen is Europe's highest vertical and overhanging rock wall at a whopping 1,000 metres. It was here in the Romsdal Alps that the cradle of the sport of climbing stood in Europe around 1880, and several of the world's most difficult climbing routes are still located here. On the opposite side of the Troll wall, Romsdalshorn rises to a height of 1,555 metres. The road continues towards Trollstigen, which is Norway's most visited tourist road and it runs between Åndalsnes and Valldal. It is a masterpiece of engineering. But it is the magical nature that impresses the most. The Trollstigen road has for several hundred years been important for traffic between Valldal and Åndalsnes. First as a path, then as a bridleway until the Trollstigen road was started in 1916. Parts of the original split path are still visible and possible to walk. The road was completed in 1936 and is closed in winter. The impressive road system winds its way up 11 hairpin loops along steep mountain sides. Each swing has its own name, often named after the foreman or chef at the facility that built the swing. At the top, there will be a longer stop so that those who wish can go to the lookout point to take great photos. We go down Trollsigen road as we retur to the ship in Åndalsnes.
